The Greene County Board of Supervisors met yesterday in regular session.

Jefferson City Administrator Mike Palmer gave his monthly update to the Board about the City of Jefferson.  He said JCorporation in Huxley is planning to build 32 townhomes and 12 condos on a property near the water tower.  Financial incentives and zoning are currently being negotiated before any development can happen.  Another development project is rehabbing 12-14 manholes along the 12-inch Interceptor Line that runs from Wild Rose Jefferson to the wastewater treatment plant.  The City-owned airport is looking to acquire 42 acres of land for a runway extension, which is expected to be approved at the City Council meeting on Tuesday.  Palmer added that the attached McFarland Clinic is on target to open by June 1st.

Next, the Board heard a proposal and Greene County Community Foundation grant details for updates to the Mahanay Bell Tower from representatives of the Bell Tower Community Foundation.  They were asking GCCF for a grant for a new glass display case, a podium, t-shirts for staff members and replacing the brochure rack in the tower.  The Bell Tower Community Foundation asked the Supervisors if they would give money to help replace wall and floor tiles and the ceiling fan on the observation deck.  The cost for the tile was estimated at $2,977, the fan was for $277 and labor to replace the tiles was $2,500.  The Board didn’t take official action on the issue, but agreed that they would look into helping to pay for the tile and ceiling fan in the Bell Tower.

The Board then approved the County Recorder’s report of fees for February of $8,953.11.

Finally, County Engineer Wade Weiss asked the Board to consider financial incentives for businesses for a county-wide tax abatement program to further encourage commercial development projects.  The Board took no action on the topic.
