Around 800 high school musicians from 11 different schools performed in Perry this past weekend at the annual Perry High School Band Olympics.
Superintendent Lynn Ubben says it was a successful event thanks to Band Director Brandon Weeks and all of the volunteers who helped out. She says typically the event brings between 1,200 and 1,500 people to Perry and it’s a great chance for the district to “show off” the school and the students.
The PHS Band Olympics are known as the largest solo and ensemble contest in the Midwest. The event gives high school students the opportunity to perform for professional musicians, often college professors, and receive constructive feedback from the experts. In addition, it also serves as a large fundraiser for the Perry High School band program.
