Trevor Harsh’s high school career may be over, but he’s far from being done with wrestling.
The senior qualified for the state tournament each of the past two seasons, medaling both times. He improved upon last season’s 7th place finish with a 5th place finish this year. He’ll have a chance to add to his collection this upcoming fall, when he’ll be wrestling for coach Mike DeRoehn of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Pioneers.
Harsh, ranked fourth in Class 2A by the predicament.com, made it to this year’s semi-finals, beating No. 6 ranked Jordan Challen for the second time this year in the quarterfinals, 8-4.
The wiry, 138-pound senior battled shoulder, rib and back issues all season long, but still finished with a 40-5 record for the season and a career record of 139-48. He nearly came up with a pin of Osage’s Brady Jennings in the semifinals, but the No. 1-ranked Jennings beat Harsh, 8-4, and eventually won the state title.
Harsh then battled back spasms on Saturday, when he lost a tight, 3-2 match to No. 3 Mason Buster of Mediapolis, but he rebounded to win the fifth place match, 3-0, over Solon’s Cole Fritz.
