Greene County entered Monday’s Class 3A boys’ basketball district tournament opener in Carroll vs. Carroll High as big underdogs. Coach Jeramie Hinote’s Rams lost 60-52 to end the season with a 6-15 record and nine straight losses. The Tigers improved to 18-4 and they advance to the district title game on Feb. 26 at Kuemper Catholic High School vs. Denison-Schleswig, also 18-4. The Monarchs won 82-56 over ADM.
Greene County led Carroll 10-9 after one quarter and Carroll held a 23-19 lead at the half. The Tigers were up 37-34 at the end of the third quarter and the final margin was the largest margin of the night. Seniors Addison Ross and Eli Cleveland each scored 14 points for Carroll, while freshman Wade Adcock had 11 points to lead the Rams. Carroll was 16 of 26 from the free throw line including 13 of 20 in the last quarter while the Rams went 12 of 15 shooting free throws. Both teams were six of 21 on three point tries while Carroll was 19 of 43 overall and the Rams were 16 of 50.
