As part of the recently implemented Iowa Core standards, fifth graders at Panorama have begun to study a unit on the Blues. Panorama Elementary music teacher Amy Block says the study will focus on a specific part of music history by exploring the concepts of evolution and influence of Blues style music. Block says students will learn all five musical elements in relation to Blues including timbre, form, rhythm, melody and harmony. At the end of the unit, Block says the students will compose their own Blues pieces by utilizing the information they had learned.
