West Central Valley won a Class 3A Region 8 girls’ basketball quarterfinal round contest in Stuart on Saturday night over Greene County by a 61-60 final in overtime. The Wildcats improved to 11-11 and they advance to the semifinals on Feb. 18, while the Rams end their season with eight wins and 14 losses.

The Rams jumped out to a 12-3 lead in the opening minutes, but WCV went on a 6-0 run to tighten the gap and Greene County’s lead was 25-24 at the half. The Wildcats built a 40-29 advantage seconds into the fourth quarter, but the Rams put up 21 fourth quarter points to force overtime at 50-50. The teams traded leads in the last four minutes with WCV senior Bailee Arnburg scoring the deciding basket with 13 seconds left when her team had the ball knocked loose. It rolled to her and she drove to the basket and laid it up and in. The Rams did not get a shot off on any of their last few possessions after holding a 58-54 lead in OT.

Arnburg had 19 points with 15 from senior Olivia McAtee and eight from senior Alicia Urquhart. All of Urquhart’s points were in the fourth quarter and overtime and they included a pair of three-point goals, one of which was banked in, while the other hit the back of the rim, bounced off the top of the backboard and fell through the hoop.

Greene County had all 60 of its points from seniors including 19 by Stacy Mears, 17 from Kayla Mobley, and 10 for Marissa Promes. Tressa Rasmussen added eight points with six from Jolee Wessling. Senior post Hannah Onken did not play due to an ankle sprain.
