For two quarters the underdog Greene County boys’ basketball team was right with PCM in Monroe, but second half turnovers and cold shooting led to a 66-49 loss, the eighth in a row for Coach Jeramie Hinote’s team. Greene County ends the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference season at 6-12 and they are 6-14 overall, while PCM tied Gilbert for the conference title at 16-2 and the Mustangs are 17-4 overall.

Sophomore Luke Greiner of PCM entered the game averaging 6.8 points, but put up 25 to lead his team. Freshman Wade Adcock made his first varsity start for the Rams and he led the way with 14 points. Sophomore Trey Tucker was held to just five points after entering the night as Class 3A’s top individual scorer at 24.3 per contest.

The Rams were 11 of 20 from the floor with five goals from three-point range in the first half, and they had just five turnovers. Seven turnovers in the third quarter helped make a 31-28 game at intermission into 50-38 after three quarters of play. The Rams also made just nine of 26 shots from the floor in the second half. Adcock and senior Riah Nelsen, who had eight points, combined to make 10 of 11 shots.

PCM was 28 of 55 from the floor and turned the ball over just three times for the game, all in the second half.

Next up for the Rams is the Class 3A District tournament opener at Carroll High vs. the home standing Tigers on Feb. 23 at approximately 8 p.m. as the second half of a doubleheader. ADM and Denison-Schleswig play in the 6:30 p.m. contest.
