The long five date road trip is over for the Greene County Rams’ varsity basketball teams and the players and coaches are looking forward to playing at home tonight. The girls and boys host Saydel (Des Moines) in the middle school gym in Jefferson on KG98 with coverage at 5:45 p.m., the girls at six, and the boys to follow. Tonight’s home games are the first for Greene since Jan. 20 when the Rams swept the CMB Raiders.
The Greene County teams lost on Jan. 29 to Saydel in Des Moines in a makeup doubleheader. The Eagles are ranked number 11 this week in the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union Class 3A poll and they are 16-3 overall. Coach Chad Morton’s Rams have lost four games in a row and are 7-11 overall. Saydel won the first meeting, 60-32.
Coach Jeramie Hinote’s Rams went 0-5 on the recent road trip with one of the losses to Saydel in overtime, 66-64. Greene County’s boys are 6-11 while Saydel is 8-9.
Tonight is also Senior Night for the Rams and senior players, cheerleaders, managers, will be introduced to the crowd.
