West Central Valley wrestler Gabe Wagner earned the privilege to wrestle in the Sectional Tournament at SE Warren Schools tomorrow morning. Wagner also earned a bid to compete in the State Speech Large Group Contest at West Des Moines Valley High School tomorrow morning. An obvious conflict of interest, Wagner would have to choose one or the other. Or, is it possible to practically be in two places at once? West Central Valley’s Activities Director Tod Broman has the answer. “Yes, it is possible. The fact is, speech coach Nancy Bauch requested that his group perform earlier, so he can get down to SE Warren by 10 am, that’s when he has to weigh in. So, if they can start his speech or 8 or 8:30 then, that will give him plenty of time to compete, and then get in the car and have somebody drive him down to Liberty Center. So, it will work out.”

Broman says this isn’t the first time something like this has happened, and says Iowa’s various school activity organizations are pretty good at working together to make sure that busy students like Gabe Wagner don’t miss out on a big opportunity.
