Even with snow plows out in full force, the Iowa State Patrol is reporting that all major roads in the Raccoon River Valley including; Interstate 80, Highway 44, Highway 169, Highway 141, Highway 30 and others are covered in snow and ice this morning, and are hazardous to drive on. If you are out on the roads, be sure to keep yourself safe if you break down or slide into a ditch. Guthrie and Adair County Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Kempf has these tips. “One of the main things to remember is that if you get stuck, stay in your car. Especially in blizzard conditions, you can get disoriented if you walk away from your car. Make sure you’ve got a charger for your cell phone that remains in your car during the winter. Keep a brightly colored cloth in your car and tie that to your antenna if you go into the ditch.”
The winter storm warning remains in effect until 9 pm tonight for Guthrie, Dallas, Adair and Greene counties.
