Greene County lost both ends of a girl/boy basketball doubleheader in Nevada Tuesday night. The fourth ranked Class 3A Nevada girls rolled to a 48-13 victory over Greene County. The Rams were looking to sweep their Heart of Iowa Activities Conference foe, but fell behind 15-0 and were never close. The Cubs opened the contest by making their first seven shots, including a trio of three-point field goals. The win put Nevada at 13-3 overall and 12-2 in the conference while the Rams fell to 7-8 overall and 7-6 in the conference. Hannah Onken has six of the Rams’ 13 points.
The boys’ game was not decided until the last few seconds, but the Cubs won 56-51 to sweep the Rams. Nevada had four points after one quarter, but led 23-17 at the half. Freshman Matt Chitty led a balanced scoring attack with 14 points. Sophomore Trey Tucker enter ed the game as Class 3A’s top scorer at 25 points a game. Tucker scored 32 and was the lone Ram to reach double figures. The Rams fell to 6-8 overall and 6-6 in the HOIAC while the Cubs improved to 9-6 and 9-4.
Both Greene County teams play make up games on KG98 Thursday in Des Moines vs. Saydel.
