Greene County residents are encouraged to nominate someone for the annual Bell Tower of Fame Award.
Selection Committee Chair Carole Custer says the award is given to someone who through their outstanding international, national or state achievements in professional or personal endeavors that have brought recognition to Greene County.
A nominee must meet two criteria: they must have been a resident of the County at some point in their lives and if they no longer reside in the County, they must have an ongoing connection with the County and they must have either state, national or international achievements. Past nominees may also qualify but can submit an updated version of their nomination.
There have been 47 recipients of the award. It started in 1980 with Dr. George Gallup who created the Gallup Poll and U.S. astronaut Major Loren Shriver. The recipient in 2014 was Dr. James Hanson. Commemorative plaques of each recipient is on display inside the Mahanay Bell Tower and also online by clicking HERE.
