Injuries are a part of every team’s journey through the course of a long season. Unfortunately, a key injury has bit Perry at one of their most critical junctures of the season. The 4th ranked Jayettes begin their most important 5 day stretch of the regular season tonight when they host 3rd ranked Carlisle at 6:00 at the Perry Sports Pavilion. Senior All State point guard Maggie Lowe will be a game time decision after spraining her ankle late in Tuesday’s win over Woodward Granger.
“They took her to the doctor and it came back just a sprain. No break or anything like that. It is still really sore and we won’t know probably until game time,” commented Perry Head Coach Mike Long.
The injury could not have come at worse time for Perry who will play both Carlisle and Ballard over the next five days. All three teams are currently tied for the conference lead with 6-1 marks.
“With Maggie in there, we just have to be disciplined. I’ve been yelling at our kids all season with showing discipline the way we run our offense and discipline the way we play our defense. It doesn’t take Maggie or Claire to score 20 points, we just have to do the things that we are capable of doing. Basically it will be the same thing without Maggie, except it will take even more discipline on our part. We can’t take dumb shots. Some times with young kids, they take shots that are ill advised. They all want to contribute but sometimes it’s necessary to make a couple of extra passes and get a better look. That’s what we’re going to have do if Maggie plays or not.”
Lowe has enjoyed a solid senior season averaging 14 points per game while dishing out 92 assists compared to only 29 turnovers. You can listen to the Perry and Carlisle game tonight on 1310 KDLS and raccoonvalleyradio.com with Shawn Kenney. Carlisle enters play with a 13-1 record.
