The ADM wrestling Tigers went 1-1 in Raccoon River conference action Thursday night at Carroll against the host Tigers and Bondurant-Farrar.
ADM squeaked out a 33-32 victory over Carroll and lost to Bondurant 40-36. Against Carroll, sophomore Cole Bennett, juniors Nathan Heath, Kyle Wilkerson, and senior Zach Ostendorf picked up wins, with Heath, Bennett and Wilkerson all picking up the max six points in their victories that proved crucial to the team’s victory. ADM also picked up six points with two Carroll forfeits (minus one of its own).
In the four-point loss to Bondurant, forfeits turned out to be the difference. ADM gave up six points with three forfeits compared to two for the Blue Jays. The Tigers got wins from Wilkerson, Bennett and juniors Brady Perry and Hunter Gibson.
For the second consecutive competition, junior Zach Johnston did not wrestle. Johnston, ADM’s highest-ranked wrestler at No. 3 for the 160-pound class by the predicament.com, leads the Tigers in match points and has just one loss this year.
The Tigers head to Urbandale this Saturday for the Urbandale Invitational, which will feature mostly 3A schools. ADM more than held its own in a similar scenario last Thursday in West Des Moines against Valley High School and Dowling Catholic.
