This upcoming Monday, January 26th, high school girl’s basketball teams will receive their regional pairings for the postseason which could start as early for them as February, 12th. Here’s a quick look of where Guthrie County high school teams are, heading into this key part of the season. The area team with the greatest chance to receive a favorable pairing is the Panorama girls who are 12-2 on the season, and ranked in the top 8 teams of Class 2-A, according to the Iowa Girls High School Athletics Union, who puts together the regional pairings. Panorama’s head coach Dan Druivenga says his team is going to look to impress in their last game before the pairings, which will be tomorrow night at win-less Guthrie Center, “You always want to impress whoever is making the pairings that we’re one of the teams to start looking at, so give us a good draw, or whatever.”

West Central Valley Stuart is a near-even 7-8 record on the season, and is hosting Madrid on Friday; a team they beat by 25 in their first time meeting the season, it’s not unreasonable to believe that the Wildcats could be an even 8-8 by the time the pairings come out. West Central Valley is a class 3-A team, and being middle of the pack, head coach Drew Stonewall says they could end up just about anywhere, “I don’t know where we’re gonna end up. We could go anywhere from hosting a first round game, to going up to Nevada, or down to Shenandoah, I have no clue at this point.”

The Class 1-A Guthrie Center girls are still winless this season, and are in the process of a rebuilding year, fielding a young team after losing numerous seniors to graduation last year.
