The Jefferson Parks and Recreation Board met yesterday.
The Board elected new officers for 2015. Mary Pederson replaces Steve Haupert as president and Lee Horbach replaces Pederson as vice-president.
The Board approved a request for Greene County Public Health to hold a falls prevention class later this year at no charge at the Greene County Community Center. The only stipulation the Board had was to include the rec center in their advertising of the classes.
The other request the Board considered was from the Jefferson Does to rent half of the gym to conduct a limited self-defense class. The Board denied the request citing that it caused a conflict of interest with a program already going on at the rec center.
JPRD Director Vicky Lautner explains that they normally charge $20 per hour for non-profit and $25 for-profit organizations to rent their rooms. However, because the Board previously allowed another program from the medical center to rent their room at no charge but include them in their advertising, they allowed the falls prevention program to follow the same guidelines.
