The ADM girls basketball team made yet another impressive bid at an upset over a ranked opponent, only to watch that opportunity again slip away in the fourth quarter.
The Tigers lost at No. 12 Pella Tuesday, 56-49, in a game that was tied at 42 after three quarters. The Lady Dutch outscored the Tigers 14-7 in the final eight minutes to win their ninth consecutive game and improve to 11-2.
ADM took control in the first half with a 25-15 lead in the second quarter that was reduced to a four-point halftime lead thanks to an 8-2 run by Pella. The Dutch also struggled mightily from the free throw line in the first half, but made their foul shots down the stretch, ultimately outscoring the tigers 33-22 in the second half.
Sophomore Ciara Bucheit lead the way with a game-high 17 points off the bench. Seniors Jessica Holterhaus had 13 and Mackenzie Gustafson 12.
Molly Jacobsen matched Bucheit with a season-high 17 points. Kenzi Sutton had 13 and Sydney Bertman had 11.
The Tigers fell to 4-9 on the season. They’ll try to bounce back this Friday with a home conference game against Winterset.
