Yesterday marked the beginning of Hazardous Materials Awareness Week in Iowa, as designed by Governor Branstad. Recognized by Homeland Security and Emergency Management agencies all around the State, the week is supposed to bring awareness to hazardous chemicals that exist in our own homes, says Guthrie and Adair County Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Kempf, “Hazardous materials are found in all of our homes. They’re products that are toxic, flammable, corrosive, reactive, or a combination of those things. Most houshold hazardous materials, you can tell from the labels which will include words such as “caution, danger, poison or warning” “.

Kempf recommends checking out the website www.beready.iowa.gov if you’re interested in finding out more information.
