The December portion of the Greene County High School basketball schedule comes to a close tonight in the middle school gym in Jefferson. The Rams host North Polk (Alleman) in a girl/boy doubleheader on KG98 with coverage starting at 5:45 p.m. The girls play at 6 o’clock with the boys to follow.
Greene County is 4-3 in girls’ basketball and 3-3 on the boys’ side. North Polk’s girls are 3-5 and the boys are 2-4. For the Rams, a pair of victories would put both squads above the .500 mark heading into the break for the holidays. The Greene County teams won’t play again until Tuesday, Jan. 6 when they meet the Saydel teams in Des Moines.
The Greene County girls are led in scoring by senior Kayla Mobley with an average of 16.2 points per game. The Rams are averaging 45 points per game as a team.
Sophomore Trey Tucker leads the boys in scoring. The left handed guard averages over 26 points per contest and is coming off a career best 40 point night on Tuesday of this week during a loss to Gilbert. Boys’ basketball based in Jefferson has existed since the early part of the 20th century, and over all that time, only a handful of players for Jefferson, Jefferson-Scranton, or Greene County, have reached the 40 point plateau.
