Those interested in serving as trainers for the Practical Farmers of Iowa’s Labor4Learning Program need to get their applications in soon.
It’s an effort to help beginning farmers receive paid, on-the-job training while helping experienced farmers attract high-quality, motivated farm employees. Farms of all sizes, enterprises and production practices are encouraged to apply.
Rick and Stacy Hartmann, who operate Small Potatoes Farm near Minburn say the program is a very valuable contribution to the future of Iowa’s agriculture.
Trainers will receive up to $200 per month, but not more than $1,000 a year for their participation. This compensates them for additional time educating trainees on farm business management.
Applications are due December 31st.
