Time is running out for people to register for our $1,000 Christmas Cash Giveaway through our third annual Caring Christmas Food Drive.
Since November, everyone has had the opportunity to stop at participating businesses to make donations to their respective food pantries and sign up for our $1,000 Christmas Cash Giveaway drawing.
Any food or monetary donation collected in each respective county of Greene, Guthrie and Dallas, stays in that county. We’ve also done several live-remotes which gave people more chances to support their local food pantries.
For Greene County, we’ve raised over $1,200 in non-perishable and money donations during five live-remote broadcasts, with all donations going to the Greene County Action Resource Center. Diane Blackmer with ARC says the see a greater need for donations during the holiday season and she explains why there’s an increased need.
“I think partly it’s anticipating that children are going to be at home for the Christmas break. So there’s going to be more of a need for food. Children that usually eat at school are going to be at home and need to be fed. And I think budgets tend to be tight for a number of reasons in December.”
She adds that they’ve served 97 families for 247 individuals in November and that $1,200 in donations which can help about 150 families.
You can catch Blackmer and our own Doug Reider for our final live-remote broadcast tonight from 209 Main Restuarant in Paton from 5-7pm. All locations in Greene County for registrations for our Christmas Cash Giveaway will end that same night.
The winner for the $1,000 giveaway will be announced on Monday, December 22nd.
