There’s still been no decision made as to the fate of the $414,000 inheritance that the Guthrie Center Fire Department received last month, but fire department First Assistant David Embleton says they may have a decision after the department’s monthly closed-door meeting on December 5th, “We’ll come out of that meeting hopefully with an offer to go to the city with, and hopefully go one direction or the other.”

The Guthrie Center City Council would like to see the fire department use part of that money to help finance a new $270,000 fire truck for the city fire department, but Embleton and others on the fire department acknowledge that the purchase of a fire truck every twenty-five years is the obligation of the city and taxpayers, and would like to use that money for advanced fire fighting equipment, as well as a new truck for the rural fire department. Embleton says the fire department is seeking input from the public on ideas for the money, and can be reached directly at 757-0441.
