One of the issues the 2013-14 Greene County varsity boy’s basketball team faced was inexperience. Another was a lack of size with most players at six-feet taller or shorter. The inexperience is long gone with all five starters and three top reserves returning from the 6-16 team of a season ago. The size issue isn’t solved quite so easily, but the unveiling of the 2014-15 Rams at last Thursday’s Media Day proved that the players have gotten bigger and stronger. Players that were short and skinny last season are, for the most part, not as short, and much more filled out. Head Coach Jeremy Hinote noted as much in his preseason comments to Raccoon Valley Radio. “The kids have done a good job hitting the weight s in the off season. You can see they are physically stronger and in some cases, taller, than last season. I think that will help us handle the physical aspects of the game. At the same time, they haven’t lost their outside shooting touch, which is a real strength for us.” Greene County averaged more than eight made three-pointers per game last season.

Greene County opens the season on the road in Colfax vs. Colfax-Mingo on Tuesday, December 2 as part of a girl/boy doubleheader. Both games can be heard on KG98, starting with the girls at 6 p.m. and the boys to follow.
