Jeramie Hinote begins his second season as head coach of the Greene County boys’ basketball program with a wealth of varsity experience back from the 6-16 season of 2013-14. The 2014-15 Rams will be unveiled at Media Day today in the middle school gym in Jefferson. The event is a chance for media members to start getting familiar with the players and coaches.

The coaching staff surrounding Coach Hinote is youthful and short on experience. Aaron Lyons, a college student and former player at East Greene, is the junior varsity coach, and first year teacher Ryan Eberly coaches the freshmen.

While the coaches don’t have much experience at their current positions, the players do. The five players starting most of the games last season are back in sophomore Trey Tucker, juniors Tyler Beger and Max Neese, and seniors Landon Braun and Riah Nelsen. Top reserves Mitchell Gorsuch, Sico Boateng, and Reid Lamoureux are also back and all three are juniors. All but three of the 62 points a game the Rams scored last season are back among the players mentioned.

Among the areas the Rams are hoping to be improved are on the defensive end, where they gave up 65 points per game. The team also lacks height with none of the eight mentioned standing over 6′ 2″, and the majority are six feet or under.

The Rams open the season on Tuesday, Dec. 2 in Colfax as part of a girl/boy doubleheader vs. Colfax-Mingo. Greene County basketball can be heard on KG98 and raccoonvalleyradio.com.
