The Greene County Board of Supervisors met yesterday in regular session.
The Board approved the first reading of a resolution to an ordinance on the Local Option Sales and Services Tax languages for some of the cities and the unincorporated parts of the county. According to Iowa Code, the Supervisors are the ones that set the sunset date for the cities and their use of LOSST funds. Every town with the exception of Churdan having accepted their LOSST fund language earlier, will have their LOSST fund language effective from July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2027.
Board Chair John Muir explains why they wanted to have all cities and the unincorporated parts be on the same expiration date.
“Just so that everyone’s on the same page, it’s just a lot better organization if everybody’s dealing with the same dates throughout the whole county.”
There will be two more readings by the Supervisors before final adoption of the ordinance can take place.
The Board also approved hiring Cory Fowler, Paul Russell and Jeremy Kennedy as equipment III operators for the secondary roads department and they approved to continue the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau grant of $4,200 to the Sheriff’s office. Sheriff Steve Haupert said they are planning on using those funds to purchase three moving radar units.
