Media Day was held Thursday in the middle school gym in Jefferson for Greene County girls’ basketball. The Rams were 9-13 last season overall and 8-10 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. Six letter winners, all seniors, return for head coach Chad Morton, and assistants Dean Lyons and Keith Vander Wilt. The letter winners are Kayla Mobley, Hannah Onken, Marissa Promes, Tressa Rasmussen, Jolee Wessling, and Stacy Mears.
Coach Morton said he expects to rely heavily on the seniors this season and the varsity bench could be a short one, although a total of 30 girls in grades 9-12 are out for basketball.
The Rams have a busy next few days planned. It starts with a scrimmage vs. several teams in Atlantic on Saturday, Nov. 15, then the Rams play Boone at Boone on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. in an Iowa Hall of Pride Scrimmage. Greene County plays Ogden in Ft. Dodge on Nov. 20 at 6:10 p.m. in the Iowa Central Community College Jamboree. The regular season begins in Monroe vs. PCM on Tuesday, Nov. 25 in HOIAC action.
