Jefferson Fire DepartmentA vehicle was destroyed after it caught fire in Jefferson on Wednesday.

Police Chief Dave Morlan says the police and fire departments, the Greene County Sheriff’s office and the Greene County Emergency Medical Services were called to 207 South Chestnut Street shortly after 10am.

Morlan states that April Koller started her 1996 Oldsmobile 88 in the garage.  She went inside the house while the vehicle was warming up and when she looked out a window to the garage, she noticed smoke coming from the vehicle.

When the fire department arrived, smoke had filled the garage and there were flames coming from under the vehicle and the hood.  The fire was put out within 30 minutes without anyone getting hurt.  The cause of the fire is believed to be mechanical-related.  The Oldsmobile was reported to be a total loss with minor smoke damage to the garage.
