HCIAs we’ve mentioned, November is National Hospice and Palliative Care Month and thanks to observances like this, Katie McIntyre with HCI Care Services says people’s general thoughts about hospice care seem to be changing as time goes on.

“You know, in the seven years I’ve been here I’ve seen it change a lot.  People are now understanding that we care for more than cancer patients, heart disease is another top hospice diagnosis too for example, and they realize that we care for patients in their home as well.

But with that, McIntyre says there are other trends they’re seeing and not all of them are positive.

“We mention that hospice is a six month benefit, and people just aren’t getting that support at that time.  We see patients sometimes only for days or even hours and that’s the one thing that people haven’t really grasped yet” adds McIntyre.

We’ll have more with McIntyre on today’s Let’s Talk Dallas County during the 9am, noon and 5pm hours on AM 1310 KDLS.
