Those looking to learn more about health insurance options for the upcoming year are encouraged to attend a free workshop at the Greene County ISU Extension office in Jefferson next week.
Extension Coordinator Michael Cooley says they will be putting on a Smart Choice Health Insurance workshop on Monday, November 17th.
The topics that family financial specialist Ruth Freeman will cover includes understanding key health insurance concepts and terms, learn to compare policies, reviewing key provisions of the Affordable Care Act, understanding new tax credits and financial assistance that’s available for health insurance and using Iowa’s new Health Insurance Marketplace.
He points out that the workshop doesn’t specifically target the Affordable Care Act and its open to anyone, even if you have health insurance coverage.
“Lots of people have this notion of brand loyalty to health insurance and while that can be a factor, a lot of it just comes down to the black and white of the coverages. Even if you feel a brand loyalty, there might be a different level of coverage that might be appropriate for you, you may be overpaying or underpaying for a different plan.”
Pre-register is requested but not required for the free workshop by calling the Extension office at 386-2138.
The workshop will be held from 6:30-8:30pm on Monday, November 17th.
