The Greene County ISU Extension office invites anyone interested in learning more about 4-H or wanting to join to come to the new members night this Friday.
The local 4-H has over 200 members and is the largest youth development organization in the country. Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Sarah Jo Reynolds says on Friday, any interested families and youth can attend their new members night and ask any questions they can about 4-H.
Reynolds points out that 4-H is more than just about livestock.
“We have lots of programs available in project areas that are non-livestock like photography, visual arts, science, technology and engineering that youth can get involved in. Like I always tell the kids, ‘you don’t have to live on a farm to be in 4-H, you can live in town and find many other ways to get involved and find your interest.’”
The evening will begin at the Extension office with a meet-and-greet and time for parents to ask questions. Experienced 4-H’ers will also be on-hand and help with team-building activities with the potential new members. Reynolds notes that they will go over to Spare Time Lanes for bowling and pizza to close out the event.
The event is sponsored by the Greene County 4-H Youth Development Committee and the Greene County 4-H Young Leaders.
Pre-registration is encouraged by noon on Friday, November 14th. It will start at 6pm that night. The event is free and open to all those interested in joining 4-H. Call the Extension office at 386-2138 to sign up.
