The 18th Street reconstruction project in Perry continues to make progress and soon motorists will be able to travel on the newly paved road.
City Administrator Butch Niebuhr says since it is an Iowa Department of Transportation project, there are some checks that need to be done but it should finish up sooner rather than later.
“The DOT has to come in and they have a special machine that they put on that for smoothness that’s part of the specifications for the DOT, so they’ll do that test either Tuesday or Wednesday this week and once it passes, that’s the last pass other than the strength test for the concrete… So we’re actually looking at once it passes that smoothness test, and we think it will because the road really looks nice, we’ll probably open it up to car traffic in one direction” says Niebuhr.
Niebuhr says there are currently 7 working days left on the project and it looks like they will use all of them, but it should be completed by the end of next week.
