The polls in Guthrie County are open until 9 pm today, and while we’ll have an important say in deciding Iowa’s next Governor, U.S. Senator and Third District Congressman, there are plenty of important local races happening, too. Notably, the Iowa House District 20 race between fifteen year  Republican incumbent Clel Baudler, and Democratic challenger, Steve Roe. Baudler says it’s been an honor serving the West Central Valley for that long, and hopes to continue working for a State so necessary to the well being of the Country, “You have States where all they do is produce rules, and regulations. We produce product. There’s an old saying, you might need a lawyer at least once in your life, you’ll need an undertaker at least once. You need other professions sometimes, but you need a farmer three times a day.”

Roe believes that Baudler has slipped up in his latest term, and that it’s time for a new face representing the region, “Over the last two years, there are a number of education bills that he voted against, that would have helped school boards and superintendents from a budgeting standpoint. Also some opportunities missed, a simple one was to provide Radon detection in schools.”
Other races of interest include a couple of contested Guthrie County Supervisor’s races. Republican Clifford Carney and Democrat Kerry Sheeder face off in Guthrie County’s Second District, and it’s Republican Everett Grasty against Democrat Kathy Miller in the County’s Third District.
