Joan Becker, mother of the young man who shot and killed legendary coach, Ed Thomas, in Parkersburg, Iowa, will speak in Stuart on Sunday, November 9 at 7 p.m. at West Central Valley High School. Becker will share some of the challenges her family faced in trying to find help for their son, Mark, who has paranoid schizophrenia. According to Becker, “Mental illness touches everyone: our educational system, community, churches, health providers, and beyond.” She will explain how faith and the support of her community has sustained her family through it all.The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) will have a resource table at the event.
