If the third time really is a charm, then the Greene County high school football team may be able to record a playoff victory tonight, something that has eluded the Rams in their first two attempts. Coach Dean Lansman’s Rams play Creston/Orient-Macksburg in Creston tonight in Class 3A first round action on KG98 with the winning team advancing to the second round on Nov. 3.

This is the third season the Rams have played as Greene County, but they lost to North Polk (Alleman) in both 2012 and ’13, when they were a 2A program. C/O-M already owns a victory over Greene County by a 23-7 score on Sept. 19 in Jefferson. The last time a Jefferson-based football team won a playoff game was in 2009 when the Rams were in 3A and went on the road and defeated Charles City.

Dean Lansman is the head coach of the Rams. He said the coaching staff has talked to the players about the opportunity to become the first Greene County team to win a playoff game, and he added. “When it comes down to it, it’s a football game, you want to win, and you want to advance to the second round.”
Coverage on KG98 begins at 6:30 p.m. with kickoff at 7 p.m. Tonight’s game will also be streamed on raccoonvalleyradio.com.
