It’s the time of year where farmers are around some of their noisiest harvesting equipment. October is also National Protect Your Hearing Month. When asked which occupation was most at risk for hearing loss, Dr. Leslie Whippen of Woodard Hearing’s answer was not surprising, “Farmers typically, because they’re around loud equipment and they don’t have anybody making them wear ear protection. I think they’re getting safe now, more knowledgeable now– at least there are more people wearing ear protection now than when I started in the 70’s.”

If you’re already hard of hearing, Whippen says today’s hearing aids are much more inconspicuous and comfortable than they used to be.. If you think you may be suffering from the early stages of hearing loss, Whippen recommends making an appointment at any of Woodard’s Raccoon Valley locations in Guthrie Center, Greenfield, Adel, Perry and Winterset.
