The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Department was one of twenty five K9 teams around the country to participate in the Heart of America Police Dog Association’s certification process in Manhattan, Kansas this month. During the course, Guthrie County’s team was certified in numerous areas of police work including tracking, narcotics detection, suspect search, obedience, handler protection and more. On the last day of the certification course, the teams were faced with a difficult scenario involving the apprehension of a barricaded subject inside of a commercial building. The Guthrie County team took 2nd place in the contest out of the 25 teams.
