ADM Football’s dramatic 35-30 victory over Harlan on Friday gave the Tigers their seventh consecutive playoff berth. As the No. 4 seed from Class 3A – District 8, that means they’ll face a high-powered Carroll team, the champions of District 2 and also nicknamed the Tigers, in the first round on Wednesday.
Carroll won District 2 by going undefeated against district opponents, and its only loss on the season came to Bishop Heelan in Week 7. Carroll’s eight wins came by an average margin of 30 points, and they won by no fewer than 14 points, the closest calls coming against Webster City in Week 3 (a 49-35 win) and Greene County on Friday (14-0).
The Carroll Tigers feature a potent offense that was the 10th best scoring team in Class 3A, averaging just over 34 points per game. They did so with a balanced attack, as the Tigers averaged 206 yards on the ground and 175 through the air per game.
The rushing attack will be difficult for ADM to stop because Carroll has several options. Fullback Matt Pauk leads the team with 859 yards rushing and 15 rushing touchdowns, while quarterback Addison Ross has fewer than half the carries as Pauk but has gained 571 yards on the ground with a robust seven yards per carry. Senior Ben Wellendorf rounds out the Carroll rushing attack with 303 yards on 63 carries.
Ross has been solid directing Carroll’s ninth-ranked passing attack as well. He has completed 55 percent of his passes for 1,574 yards with 14 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
Find out if ADM’s Tigers can slow down Carroll’s Tigers this Wednesday night when we travel to Carroll for a 7 p.m. kickoff. Our coverage begins at 6:15 pm. on K107 and raccoonvalleyradio.com.
