Greene County ExtensionThere’s still time to pre-register for some upcoming continuing instructional courses for commercial pesticide applicators later this month at the Greene County ISU Extension office.

Extension Coordinator Michael Cooley says this Wednesday will be training sessions for Category 2-Forest Pest, Category 5-Aquatic Pest, Category 6-Right-of-Way and Category 10-Demonstration and Research.  Topics to be covered include effects of pesticides on groundwater and other non-target sites, phytotoxicity, pesticide stewardship, right-of-way weed control, forest weed control, aquatic pest control and ash tree inspections/Emerald Ash Borer treatment options.

On Thursday, October 23rd, categories 7D-Community Insect Management, 8-Public Health Pest and 10-Demonstration and Research will be held at the Extension office.  This training will include topics such as update on laws and regulations, effects of pesticides on groundwater and other non-target sites, pesticide toxicity and exposure, pesticide stewardship, and update on mosquitoes, ticks and other public health pests.

 All sessions will be from 9-11:30am on their scheduled days.

Cooley points out that they choose courses that are relative for area participants.

“People who put on those courses have really made an effort the last couple of years to listen to feedback and evaluations of the courses.  And try to make sure its topics that are being covered in the classes and courses that are of interest to applicators and things that are worthwhile considering the amount of time that the applicators put in.”

There are several more commercial applicator training sessions in November and December.

Pre-registration is encouraged with a $35 fee the day before by calling the Extension office in Jefferson at 386-2138.  If you register the day of or at the door, you will be charged a $10 late fee.

The Extension office is located at 104 West Washington Street in Jefferson.
