We are now less than two months away from the November general election and Iowa voters will head to the polls to decide on who they want as their lawmakers in both the House and Senate.

One of those seats is in House District 47 which represents Greene and Boone counties where  Republican incumbent Chip Baltimore is running against Democrat challenger Hans Erickson.

Both men are advocates of education.

Baltimore says that along with the huge accomplishments of freezing college tuition for the second consecutive year, he’s also helped to spend funds to make sure that teachers have the necessary materials to educate young people in the K-12 school systems.

Erickson comes from an educator’s background with both of his parents who were teachers and he was recently endorsed by the Iowa Education Association.

He believes that every child should have access to pre-kindergarten education in the state.

“If children don’t have that early start, they’re really set behind in their education.  It’s a problem that can follow them all the way through high school their development later on.  So if we get people a good foundation at the start, then they’re just going to be that much farther a head.”

He also wants to follow the established deadlines at the state level to set allowable growth so that school districts know how much money is in their budgets.

The general election will be on Tuesday, November 4th.
