The ADM girls volleyball team continued its hot start to the season Thursday in Adel by winning all of its matches in the Varsity Tiger Invitational, pushing the Tigers’ record to 11-2.
The Tigers dropped just one set the entire night — they fell 21-19 in the second set of their three-set win over Perry — and swept their other four opponents (I-35 Truro, Woodward-Granger, Newton and Knoxville) in straight sets.
Other than gutting out a 21-18, 21-16 win over Woodward-Granger, ADM was dominant. The Tigers won the rest of their sets by an average margin of more than 10 points, and they twice held an opponent to single digits (I-35 Truro scored four points in its first set, Knoxville just seven in its second set).
ADM head coach Mary Beth Scott said she thought her team played even than on Tuesday, when the Tigers won all three of its matches at Pella. She pointed to strong serving from senior Marissa Felt and aggressive hitting from fellow senior Kari Dufoe, among other contributions, ask key to ADM’s strong play Thursday night at home.
The Tigers will warp up a busy week on Saturday, when they’ll head to West Des Moines Valley High School for the Valley Invitational. Matches start at 8:30 a.m.
