The high school volleyball season began in Churdan on Tuesday night for the Paton-Churdan Rockets with a non-conference loss to Iowa Christian Academy (West Des Moines) in three sets. Scores were 23-25, 15-25, 12-25. Returning Rolling Valley Activities Conference first team all-conference performer Sydney Koch led P-C with nine kills.

Hannah Boehmer is the head coach of the Rockets. She said she was impressed with Maria Tasler’s back row play and added, “I think our four freshmen starters were pretty nervous in their first varsity game, but they did some good things. They will be encouraged by the good plays they made and will work hard in practice to improve.”

Next up for P-C is the Coon Rapids-Bayard tournament on Saturday, Sept. 6 in Coon Rapids.
