The inaugural Rock Hunger in Dallas County event was a great success.
It all started earlier this summer when Perry Lions Club President David Wright came up with the idea to use the rivalry between the Perry and ADM football teams as a way to assist those who need help putting food on the table.
Wright says he was surprised by the results of the contest. The Perry community donated 1,830 pounds of food before Friday’s game in Adel, along with $554, which he says will go a long way since food pantries are able to purchase food for 17 cents a pound.
“The Rock Hunger project only succeeded because of the large amount of participation in the Perry community” says Wright. He adds that even though the Bluejays were defeated in the football game, there were no losers when the communities come together for a good cause.
Wright adds that everyone involved felt the Rock Hunger project should become an annual event and they’re looking forward to building on this year’s success in 2015.
