Greene County doesn’t open the high school volleyball season until Tuesday, September 9 when the Rams host Heart of Iowa Activities Conference opponent CMB (Maxwell) in the middle school gym in Jefferson. That’s one of the latest opening dates of any team in Iowa and Greene County Activities Director Dean Lansman said part of the lateness is due to the conference schedule. “I’m not quite sure why the conference sets their schedule this way. We’ve talked about moving it to get going a week earlier, but some teams are putting in games at weekend tournaments. Our varsity is in the South Hardin, Ballard, Pella, and Johnston tournaments, but the South Hardin tournament in Eldora on September 13 is the first one. So, you could say our girls might be at a little disadvantage because some schools will have 12, 13 games and many more sets than that before we play our first. But, I know Coach (Donna ) Carhill will have that team ready to go.”
