The Greene County Fair Association will be hosting an auction fundraiser for their Capital Project Campaign next week.

Secretary Doug Hawn says they will be replacing their swine building on the fairgrounds.  The current 120-by-30-foot building is in need of replacement due to the age of the structure.

Hawn states that their auction will be on Tuesday, September 9th at 7pm at the fairgrounds.  He comments that they have over 60-agriculture related products for sale such as seed corn and beans, chemicals and agronomic services.  All items have been donated by seed companies and dealers, farmer cooperatives and industry providers.

Hawn talks about other advantages that the new 72-by-135-foot open building would include besides being used during the county fair.

“First thing that it will be is a lot less maintenance on our current facilities that we are replacing and then in upcoming years we’ll be able to use it for interim events such as our swap meet, other events, storage.  So it’ll generate income throughout the year  rather than just sit there and only be used during the fair.”

There will also be a meal grilled by the Greene County Pork Producers and served by the County Fair Association.  Tickets for the meal are $10 per person.

The sheep and cattle barns are also being considered to be replaced in future years.

The new swine building is expected to be built by the 2015 Greene County Fair.
