Swap Meet Continues In Jefferson Today
The 4th Annual Greene County swap meet ends today at the fairgrounds in Jefferson.
Greene County Fair Board Member Bob Allen says the swap meet includes vendors selling auto parts, collectables, miscellaneous items and there will also be garage sale vendors from Jefferson at the event.
Today will also feature a car show at the fairgrounds in the afternoon.
Plus, there will also be a tractor display and possibly livestock animals for sale as well.
It will be from 8am-5pm today. Free admission to the fairgrounds.
Greene County Democrats To Host Event Tomorrow
Everyone is invited to an ice cream social in Jefferson sponsored by the Greene County Democrats.
Chair David Morain says people can come to the Russell Park shelter house for ice cream, learn about the candidates for the upcoming November election and learn more about their platforms and what the Democrat Party does in the County.
The free event is from 3-5:30pm on Sunday, August 24th.

Monday’s Two Vehicle Accident Injured Four People In Greene County
Sheriff Steve Haupert says at 5:50pm deputies responded to a two vehicle accident at 160th Street and M Avenue. He states that 43 year-old Timothy Tucker of Jefferson was traveling west on 160th Street, north of Jefferson, when his 2005 Ford F-350 Super Duty pickup truck collided with a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck that was driven by 19 year-old Jessica Montoya of Jefferson who was heading south on M Avenue.
Four people were taken to the Greene County Medical Center by Greene County Emergency Medical Services with non-life threatening injuries. Those victims included Jessica Montoya and her passenger, 21 year-old Caleb Byerly of Churdan and two passengers from the Tucker vehicle with 15 year-old Trey Tucker and 17 year-old Tori Tucker.
Haupert comments that Timothy Tucker and another child were uninjured in the accident. Everyone was wearing their seatbelts and airbags were deployed. Each vehicle sustained $10,000 in damages. No charges are pending at this time.
Haupert notes that the intersection is an uncontrolled gravel intersection in the rural part of the county and tall corn played a role in the cause of the accident.
Registration Deadline Approaching For 4-H Picnic
Next weekend, the Greene County 4-H Youth Development Committee is hosting a picnic at Spring Lake Park for all 4-H’ers.
Greene County ISU Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Sarah Jo Reynolds says the committee wanted to put on an event that wrapped up the 2014 year in 4-H and helped to start a new year of activities and growth.
It will be on Saturday, August 30th with a free meal catered by the Greene County Pork Producers at 5pm, then there will be tailgate games and discounted roller skating from 6-8pm. Reynolds urges everyone to bring lawn chairs to ensure that you have a seat at the park.
It is also for perspective 4-H members and Clover Kids are also invited to join them.
Pre-registration is requested by Wednesday, August 27th by calling the Extension office in Jefferson at 386-2138 during normal business hours.
An Iowa Man Remains In Jail Following A Gun Incident In Jefferson
Jefferson Police Chief Dave Morlan says 22 year-old Jameson Todd Ross of Runnels was arrested on Wednesday after he reportedly was waving a loaded handgun around, making threats while pointing the weapon at people at the Redwood Motel at 209 East Gallup Road on Wednesday night.
Morlan states that when authorities arrived, an officer approached the hotel room door and saw the alleged suspect point the 40-caliber pistol in his direction and ordered Ross to drop the weapon and step away from it. The man complied and was taken into custody without any shots fired.
Morlan comments that he’s glad the incident was resolved without anyone getting hurt and without the officer having to use any force to apprehend the accused individual.
Ross is charged with aggravated misdemeanors for assault and carrying weapons and his first offense for public intoxication. He was booked into the Greene County Jail where he remains under a $100,000 cash-only bond.
Greene County Medical Center Nurse Receives First-Ever Award
On Thursday, Greene County Medical Center gave out its first-ever DAISY Award to Jenny Taylor.
She is a nurse in the medical center clinics and was one of 13 nominees for the award. The DAISY Award began in 1999 in the memory of J. Patrick Barnes who received such great care from the nursing staff, his family wanted to recognize their efforts and carry on a legacy of his by creating the award.
Chief Nurse Executive Katie Heldt says each department was represented by the nominees which anyone can nominate a nurse that they feel goes above and beyond their normal duties to foster extraordinary care for patients.
Taylor received a certificate and a hand-crafted sculpture from Africa.
Heldt points out that they will have two DAISY winners recognized each year with the second one coming in November.
