Jenny Taylor is the first-ever recipient of the DAISY Award at Greene County Medical Center.
The clinician nurse, along with 12 other nominees were at Thursday’s inaugural ceremony to honor extraordinary nurses who perform superhuman tasks everyday in their jobs.
The award started in 1999 in memory of J. Patrick Barnes who passed away from complications with Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). His family members wanted to carry on his legacy due to the amount of time and effort that his nurses put into his care.
Chief Nurse Executive Katie Heldt says each nominee represents every department at the medical center and she wanted to start the tradition at the hospital. Nominations were opened to anyone.
Taylor talks about receiving the award and the kinds of people she works with everyday.
“The nurses that were nominated were great, Greene County Medical Center is a great place to work. The people I work with are like family, everyone treats each other with respect and very kind. And I’m very honored by this.”
Taylor received a certificate and a hand-sculptured “A Healer’s Touch” from Africa.
Heldt points out that they will have two DAISY winners recognized each year with the second one coming in November.
