Two Iowa Department of Transportation road construction projects in Greene County were recently completed this week.
The Hardin Creek Bridge, east of Jefferson on US Highway 30, has both lanes of traffic back open to motorists. The project started at the beginning of July and DOT Construction Technician Supervisor Dennis Ward previously told Raccoon Valley Radio that a crew with Kramer and Associates were putting new layers of concrete on the bridge along with new guardrails.
While that project is going on, traffic was reduced to one lane with portable traffic lights in place.
The other road project was replacing train rails on the Union Pacific Railroad crossing on Iowa Highway 144 in Grand Junction. Jeff Vanderzwaag, DOT Highway Supervisor previously told Raccoon Valley Radio that their crews worked with UP crews to replace the rail tracks at that crossing and smooth out the approaches to it so it wouldn’t be too rough for motorists.
That project started last week and traffic was re-routed by a detour.
