Greene County SheriffIn light of an accident earlier this week involving tall corn stalks and with school starting today, Greene County Sheriff Steve Haupert wants to remind everyone about some safety precautions.

School buses will be out in the early mornings and afternoons picking up and dropping students off on rural routes.  Haupert asks for everyone to be aware of youth crossing rural roads and obey all lights and signals from a school bus.  He notes that if someone passes a school bus unlawfully, that bus driver can report the vehicle to authorities.

As for tall corn stalks, Haupert states that they can block a driver’s vision and so a good thing to remember is to see if there is a dust trail on a gravel road that approaches an intersection with tall corn, that it is a good indicator that someone is also approaching an intersection.

He adds that its always good to take a second look before proceeding into an intersection on rural roads with tall corn present.
