The Perry football team will hold a Gatorade sports scrimmage this Friday night at Dewey Field beginning at 6:00.  It will be a critical scrimmage for the Perry coaching staff as they look to finish up the two deeps and begin game preparation for ADM next Friday night.

“Obviously we have a couple of All District players back in Will Whiton and (Nic) Wilhelmi and we have a few upperclassmen who have earned their spots, but we still have a lot of positions up for grabs,” commented Perry Head Coach Jason Olejniczak.  “Things will start to shake out after the Gatorade scrimmage Friday night.  I know we have a lot of players looking to turn our heads and step up and earn their playing time.”

One key area that Perry will look to fill is on defense with the graduation of Seth Stetzel.  Olejniczak is looking at a duo to try to provide the spark that “Sparky” provided last year.  “Right now, both Eli (Saemisch) and Blake Jans are battling for the top spot.  Both will play and both will contribute.  We want to play more kids this year which means getting more kids on the field so a lot of our players will be looking to step up and earn that right, whether it’s on special teams, offense or defense.”

Stetzel and Michael Lansing are two large holes for Perry to fill on the defensive side of the football.  Lansing finished with 115 stops while Stetzel had a nose for the football producing over 60 tackles.  Perry’s top returning tacklers are Wilhelmi with 109 and Jans with 72.

Tomorrow, we will turn our attention to the strength of this year’s team which should be the offensive line.
