perry logoThe City of Perry was hoping to have the 18th Street construction project finished before school started and though the project got delayed, City Administrator Butch Niebuhr says things are moving along quickly now.

“They’re really going full bore there, they did the water relocation (Monday) and that will finish up this week as they go through the disinfection process and the pressure test for that.  Then they’ll put in the storm sewer, which is all the underground stuff before they put the street over it. So, the underground stuff should get down this week and then they’ll start prepping the base for the concrete so all that work will start this week and hopefully in less than two weeks you’ll start seeing the street being put in” says Niebuhr.

And once they are able to start paving, Niebuhr says it should be a quick process but there will be some traffic issues.

“It will happen pretty fast.  The bad thing about that is it’s going to take a lot of trucks.  A lot of cement trucks are going to be coming in, a lot of heavy traffic and of course it’s going to be when school is open and there’s always a lot of traffic up by the high school and middle school.  So those few days when that’s going on, the combination of young drivers, school buses and construction vehicles, everybody needs to be on their toes, allow a little extra time and don’t get frustrated with that because it is going to be a mess.”

Niebuhr says he expects the project to be completed yet this fall, hopefully before the snow starts to fly.
